Business cycle for men

When we worry about the business cycle, is this just a case of a men's problem being considered a national problem?

There's probably a lot more to this (this was just my instant reaction), but prima facie it is pretty startling.

  1. My intuition here is that women choose to leave the labor force instead of entering unemployment (job search). Male and female employment population ratios seem to back me up: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vatkxvudlqyriou/Male%20vs.%20Female%20Employment.png?dl=0 (Data from Fred, as usual)

Also, try to avoid the use of dollar signs as they interfere with my setup of mathjax. I left it set up that way because I think this is funny for an economics blog. You can use € or £ instead.
